In Chapter Two, Trip and Mattie reminisced about their first meeting, when Trip had introduced Mattie to Bloodsworth Bog, and Mattie had tried to rob Churchie's Hardware. Years later as Karen Laurent's development plans threatened the bog, Mattie decided that it was time the two friends explore the wild wetland in search of Will O' the Wisp, before it was too late.
